I assume these are the Geolander At tyre which is a good tyre but not that cheap There used to be a MT tyre in the Geolander range that worked a lot better than its looks sugested it should but wore quickly I belive its no longer made. Yokohama make great road tyres and its long extinct Super digger range were unstoppable but alas they are no more. Are you looking at any other brands?

I had Super diggers on my MU before I changed to Coopers and apart from them being not so good in the mud, they were exceptional tires. Very puncture resistant, excellent on road and pretty good off road. J

I too am looking for tyres, but my question is more about if I should I go bigger, wider tyres and also brands? At the moment I have 245 70 16, although I do about 90% road and 10% sand, I am thinking of some bigger feet. Any suggestions for a standard height MU (a suspension lift or leaf over axle modification may soon follow) with 16 inch rims.

I went for 265/75 R16's which have a dia of 32.5". But you can only do this with a minor sus lift otherwise they rub. The total cost was $120 for the 2" ext shackles, $0 to crank the T/bars up, $1100 for 4 Coopers ST tyres and $40 wheel alignment. You get around 1.5" lift from the suspension, (according to how stuffed your leaf springs are), and an extra 1" from the increased tyre diameter, (30.5 to 32.5). I do about 80/20 on to off road and I didn't want to screw up the handling too much. V happy with the result. J

Just to confirm suspicions re Yokohama mudgrips - a member of my club bought new yokohama muds and they lasted just 7000km before worn out. Took them back to dealer who gave him new set as replacements and these also are chewing out VERY rapidly. I believe this product has now been withdrawn from the market - obviously major problems with the rubber compound. Good to be sure they've fixed this before buying any yoko MT. Mike.

the tires in question are called go11 in an a/t square tread pattern they are 245-70-16 . i can buy them for 215 dolllars each at elizebeth st tires in wellington. north city tyres in porirua offered me pirelli,s at 240 dollars for the same size .i was told that the yokohamas are a little faster wearing than the pirelli but give a better road feel

Just picked this off the 4wdaustrailia.com.au forum
I have a set of the Geolander AT's on the hilux and would not buy them again. Got talked into them by the dealer. I agree with th edealer that the tread is great and they stick to anything. The only problem that I have is that they are so soft that they get chewed on almost anything and I am looking to change them at 50,000 kms. I have got 80,000 out of BFG At's and will buy the BFG's again over the Yokahamas. They were cheaper than most tyre but will not last as long. From what I can gather Yokahamas are a softer tyre than most and will chew more easily.
Seems that the Yoko is not as good as it used to be. I bought GT Saveros from North City Tyres at 215 each in the mud pattern and am very happy I looked at the Pireli Dakar which is a mud tread and thought it to aggressive for my needs the Scorpian AT has been given a thumbs down on many forums as they are a very hard compound that wears well but is less than satisfactory in the wet

I to am doing the rounds for a set of new tyres, running Goodyear Wrangler AT/R's 245x70R 16's they will have done about 60k when I take them off, not overly impressed ( new 265x70 $260) so Iam look at Coopers 245x75R 16 $253 but the rim size is 6.5 to 7.5 and mine are 8inch. B.F.Goodrich 265x75R16 AT's $255, so Iam in a bit of a bind at the monent as what to buy, so I'll ask more question. A couple for Justin if you dont mind you are running 265x75 R16's, Coopers, are they ST's I have a similar suspension lift, little worried about the front though, how much clearance have you got there? How much difference in the gearing? at the monent 110 kph is 2700 rpm's, also in Qld the legal up sizing is 155mm above ADR whic in the MU is 781 in diameter, the 265 x 75's are 804 not worried about the Gov but insurance more so, Any info much appreciated, cheers Bruce.

I had mine fitted just before the club day out to G/Tops. I couldn't get them to rub over the intire two days so in my book that's good enough. They affected the speedo reading by about 5kph so I don't think the gearing would be that far out to cause concern. When I measured the Yoko's I took off, the coopers were exactly 2" greater in diameter, I just let Oz 4WD ins. Know of any mods I do and they can come back and complain if they have a problem. J

Thanks for that Justin, the Coopers are on the top of the list at the monent. I will have to go for the 265/75's as my rims are 8inch and the 245/75 only allow 7.5inch. I also would not buy Goodyear Wrangler AT/R's again either, incase anyone was wanting any advise on them, 60k not good enough for our size vehicles, thanks again. Cheers Bruce

Thanks for the view Justin, I don't think I'll have any problems either. Iam also insuranced with Aust 4WD so I'll do as you have. Also did you put the manual hubs on your MU? model and price would be great, I hate these auto things, never know when there in. Cheers Bruce.

No it came with the MU as standard. They are the usual Aisin hubs and one of the many reasons why I brought the truck in the first place. I found an interesting article a while back in servicing them too: www.off-road.com/toyota/tech/aisin/J

Fitted the Cooper ST 265/75's yesterday, ge she stands up now looks like she's on steriods, can look those Toyato drivers straight in the eye now. Only thing is how true is my speed now reading? Justin said his is about 5k out, but I think mine is much more than that, it could be as my gear box is not the same as the 3.1s normanly is. Driving behind my mates Delica his speedo 60k mine 53k, so the only way to check is to go drive one of those 5 kilometer speed checks on the highway, and of course go bush and see how good they are. Cheers Bruce.

Bruce, if you ask around there will probably be an instrument shop in your vicinity. I went to one in Christchurch, the guy popped it on rollers and gave me a printout a few minutes later for $20. The other option is to overtake a traffic officer at high speed through town. You'll have your speed data even quicker, though this method does cost a bit more..Mike.

Remembered that the old GPS off our boat needed a wire soldered fixed it and put her in the MU and checked the speedo. At 60k she reads 55k, at 80k around 74k, 100k about 93k and 110k,100k. The new tyres are 65mm bigger in diameter than the old ones. I now have a ground clearance of 247mm under the rear diff. Also have dropped about 250rpm's at 100k's. Hope this info is of some help. Cheers Bruce.
