Well my slightly grey/black smoking 89' bighorn is in the shop for 2 days, I'm using "Diesel Tune" in New Lynn Auckland.
He is doing the following :
Clean and reset injectors. Replace front cam seal Replace front crank seal Replace Cam belt + Tensioner Replace all V belts Replace valve stem seals Set valve clearances Check and adjust Diesel pump timing Check and Adjust Diesel pump delivery rates. Basic Check of all systems.
He estimates less than $600 for all the work and has it for 2 days. I think its pretty good value and most of the work is preventative maintenence ive asked for rather than required. He is pretty confident it will stop the smoking at idle problem that ive had. Ill let you all know what the results are as im sure everyone likes to know where a good reliable diesel mechanic that knows his stuff is.

I'd say thats a very good price if all that work is done... I don't think you would get any change outa $600 just for the injectors and pump adjust here in Oz.....

Came in at just under $600 gst excl.
This guy knows his stuff..
$250 (5hrs) labour and the rest was parts.
Still smokes a bit but nothing like it was.. Ive disconnected the breather and degreased the intercooler and all intake pipes, then went for a 1hr drive and she only smoked when hot after the long run.. wierd thing is after that run there was oil in the turbo side of the intercooler again and a bit down the turbo's throat. Is there any way oil can leak into the intake side of the turbo? I thought they generally blow it through to the exhaust side..??

This is a common issue with the pcv valve/ engine blowby and some isuzus suffer from it even at low milage Apart from oil consumption it is not fatal and there is a mod to overcome the oil use.Read the tread "oil catch can" under "anything you like" in the forum

Nah Greaves - Ive disconnected the breather from the intake pipes.. Degreased everything and still getting oil on the compressor side of the turbo.
There is however RTV gasket junk on the oil return pipe flange so the Mech has given me a proper gasket to replace it with, he says the RTV may be blocking the oil return somewhat and causing too much oil pressure on the turbo bearing causing it to leak out.. i will replace this and if the problem continues he will rebuild the turbo for $350 cash, All new bearings and seals and balanced too.. seems like a good price to me.

WOW that sounds like an excellent price to get a lot of work done, I have been planning to get my old 89 Bighorn in for injectors, fuel pump etc soon so will probably be going there. Any idea of the mechanics name etc and directions to get there, I'm out in Hobsonville. Hope your truck is still running sweet.
