Have been chatting with my diesel mechanic and he mentioned it could be a good idea to remove the emission control gear - fitted between turbo hose and manifold on my 2.8. He thought there might be increase in performance once restriction removed and airflow improved. Just a matter of longer airhose ex turbo to manifold. Has apparently done this on other makes.
I recall this coming up somewhere in the forum before - but cannot remember conclusions. Are there any sensors or tuning factors involved here, or any other pitfalls to removing the gear.
Has anyone done this and what gains if any occurred? Be pleased to get some feedback on this - thanks - Mike.

The emmision gear that most people take off ie the exhaust gas recirculation which is the 2 valves on the inlet manifold and a connecting pipe to the exhaust manifold. On mine this was taken off by the dealer so I cant say how much effect it has but I have been told that there is a substantional improvment in ecconomy, performance and engine life.Only downside depens on your local emmisions laws. I think this mod may be illegal in some parts of Aus and there is talk of a law in NZ preventing the removal of emmision gear although it might never happen. 2 ways to disable this.Mine has trhe valves removed and the holes sealed up. The other way is to permanantly block the hoses with a lage ball bearing
