i have an isuzu trooper 3.1 4jg2
just wondering what can i do to make the engine have a bit more pull in particular at lower rpm
my 4jb1 in the rodeo would kick its ass at the moment. but the 4jg2 doesnt feel as punchy as the 2.8 4jb1.
the car has had a full service all filters so i know thats right.
what can i do?

If its the later one with electronic control not much except 3 inch exhaust and turbo tweak. If its the earlier one you can also up the fuel but be carefull these engines are known to crack heads if you overheat them. Dont touch the fuel without the bigbore exhaust first. The 4jg2 normaly has good power at low revs

Firstly please put your location in your profile, this helps us to not refering you to someone who isn't in the same contry as you. To do this have a look at clubisuzu.proboards29.com/v45index.cgi?board=VMC&action=display&thread=562The first thing I'd do is put a boost gauge on it and see if it's making proper boost. It should boost about 10psi under load. I have an electronic 4jg2 that the local diesel shop has tweaked and it goes a lot better. I'm running 2.5" exhaust. The only down side to tweaking the electronic 4jg2 is it idles faster. This means there is a compromise between how much you tweak and idle speed. Mine idles at about 1000rpm. It has a lot more hp and torque. It only blows smoke if you stand on it with the turbo not boosting. If you stand on it over about 4psi boost it's fine. At high revs/boost it blows no smoke. Max boost now 14-16psi depending on load. It is a completely different vehicle now. ;D

if you increase boost without increasing fuel you get virtualy no more power but it can reduce exhaust gas temps so still a good thing. I wouldnt go over 15 though

Don't discount injectors. It may well not be an issue but remember and I can tell you from experience, that they are a serviceable item. I think Mr Isuzu recommends 100k intervals but my injector mob say they can stretch out to 150k. My 3.1 pulled like a teenager right through the rev range until they injectors got sad. Then it wouldn't pull the skin off a custard. After 150k my injector mob said they couldn't be tipped or whatever it was they were going to do, they had to be replaced because they had been let go too long.
