Ok, this has stemmed from the possibility that noisy turbos are on the way out, as in going to die. Others say, of course you should be able to hear it. I don't actually know. I assume hearing the turbo doesn't necessarily mean it's faulty or worn... Others disagree. Can you hear yours boosting or at any other time at all? I would be interested to know.

i havent put the insulation back under the bonnet yet. Hey Hope you don't mind a little side question. I'm going to put an intercooler in some day, and just wondering if it would be safe to completley remove that insulation stuff, or would it make the paint go funny over time? With my custom turbo and K&N filter there is always a whistle under load too. Andy

The matting is most definitely for heat dissapation as well. Ever seen a bonnet that doesnt have it under it. The heat transfer kills even factory colour faster than it should and the first victim is usually the clear. If a respray has been invloved anywhere, depending on the products used, this may start with crows feet.

Andy after i cut a hole in it for the intercooler its going back in, the only reason it hasnt yet is i thought i might need it out again and i didnt want to remove the plastic clips again. plus if the intercooler is rubbing anywhere (my copper pipe is) this with help stop that what you do is go to a wreckers or pick a part and go to the mitsy section and pinch all the wire clips under a bonnet to hold in the insulation, there stornger and you can get them out easy without breaking them, should have my intercooler finnished this weekend if the weathers good, so keep an eye on my intercooler thread.

Cheers. Thanks for the info. I'll do my best not to rip it up too much so I can put it back in (when I get around to doing the project). I'll keep those mitsi clips in mind for it.
