My 2.8 takes 10 litres of oil, so I would expect the 3.1 to be about the same.. but will look into it for ya.. unless Alan (Greeves) beats me to it ..

Hmm.. did some searching .. looks like either I'm doing something wrong, or somethings up with my engine.. looks like my 4JB1 should take 5 litres of oil.. not the 9.5-10 litres it has been .. .. more searching is in order..

We are talking engine oil I hope. If its auto the capacity is not in the book but I doubt its that much. The 4jg2 used in 97 was 6 liters. There can be differences due to sump design etc. The 2.8 in the Mu does take 5.5 but the same engine in my bighorn takes about 4.8. A couple of things to watch when changing oil. The holes the oil goes down to the sump are quite small so it takes a long time for the oil to get to the sump. Pour in the 6 liters slowly then wait 5 minutes before checking the oil level. Heating the oil helps a little bit here. If it doesn't show after 5 min add 500ml and try again. If this is a rebuilt engine it needs 7.1 liters due to the oil that normally doesn't drain out
I have seen what happens when the sump plug was not put back (it wasn't me). It could be worth checking for obvious leaks
