Hi all On friday morning i had a very early start so i thought id flick the little pre heat switch on my 93 DT MU and warm it up a bit. after a few mins i turned the switch off and pulled out of the drive. Boy the Mu went like pig i had no power (30K max) i stopped and turned everything off. but it still went slow, after awhile i guessed the problem was this pre heat switch. so i let the Mu cool down and tried again, yay all fixed and off we went, only i started to worry if id done any damage and looking at my oil pressure gauge i thought it looked a bit low (hovering halfway up when driving). so what should my oil pressure gauge read? & would i have done any damage driving with the pre heat stuck on?? Thanks Bozza

Sounds like the butterfly in the exhaust stuck. That device shouldnt of worked at all unless the temp was under 5 and looking at previous post I dont think its been that cold where you live. No damage likly but also no point trying to use the fast warm up in Wellington except on the coldest of days. Ive never used mine in Newlands in 11 years. Oil pressure cold should read about 4 on the guage Warm should be 4 above 2000rpm but could be as low as 1 at idle. this is calibrated in kg/mm and you multiply by 14 to get psi

is yours 3.1 or 2.8 just my opinion, i would get under it with a can of CRC and take the top cover off the ehaust butterfly and free it up to make sure its returning to fully open, then i would pop the switch out of the dash and unplug it and pop it back in again, then there is no temptation, that what ive done to mine, im thinking about using that button for the fan under my intercooler, will still be ingition on but have that swith in the line.

Its in the cast part below the turbo so not that easy but not t hard. Spaying the linkages is fairly easy. A lot of people have completely removed the butterfly which unless you intend to park overnight at the skifield or central south island is not a bad idea.

same with my MU, once I turn on that switch, there is alot of black smock coming out of the exhaust pipe.
