Would a 4GJ1 motor from a 1992-1997 Bighorn fit in a 1999 engine bay? I think they have the 4JX1?

It will physically fit but you have a few issues to sort through. Nearly all the 99s were auto and the computers talk to each other Unless you use the same trans that came with the 4jg2 and wireing loom expect a few headaches rather than full blown nightmares. Nothings impossible.

Sweet, thanks for the reply......possibly a cheap 99 going so wondering if a transplant would work if the origional motor was out of the question Cheers KiwiMR2

In england there is a company swaping the 4jb1 engines into the later wizard/bighorns so it can be done. If you have a compleat donor car it shouldnt be tooo hard
