I understand most members of this forum are farmilar with Isuzu derivatives that are SUVs in nature. I visted www.euroncap.com after reading from a local journal about the appaling safety standards of the Isuzu D-Max, which is the common pick up version found here in South Africa. Although it performed better than the Nissan Navara but it made me to think a lot especailly about those other pick ups that do not even have ABS or airbags. Never mid that the art of driving cars is older than ABS or airbags and cars have been driven safely for along time without these.

Its well known that suvs can never be capable of the tasks they are built for and as safe as normal cars. The intelligent driver adjusts acordingly to compensate. I read and artical a while ago suggesting that airbags etc are bad for safty as they dont encourge people to drive safely. He suggested a spike on the steering wheel would compel people not to follow too close etc as they couldnt rely on the airbag to save them.

Had to laugh at that and it made me think in 2005 I survived a near fatal accident in an Isuzu pick up in whcih I lost control in wet conditions resulting in a 360 degree spin and a second spin that was caused by truck that hit me sideways but the cab was still intact and we could still close and open the doors and the most amzing thing is that the vehicle still did not roll over despite being hit at speed while spinning. Then I thanked myself for being in an Isuzu.
