Camera Picture Cards

G'day all

I'm probably the last to find out but this may save someone from falling in the same trap. Yesterday I bought a 1Gb XD card for my Olympus C740 camera only to find that the card is incompatible in this (and many other) model. My camera will take a max 512Mb card even though physically they look the same. Now I'm having trouble finding a card less than 1Gb at any retailers. I'll have to try ebay but it appears that once these cards are no longer available many cameras will be unusable even if they work fine.

I had a look at a few stores and on line places around me, in Australia.. and the 512Mb cards are rarer than rocking horse poop .. on eBay .. there are none available in Australia, but there are some (14 at the time I looked) from eBay USA , shipped from Hong Kong.. approx. $5 Australian , plus approx. $10 AUS shipping .. eg: cgi.ebay.com.au/Olympus-XD-MEMORY-US-512MB-512-MB-PICTURE-CARD-CAMERA-M_W0QQitemZ220233486473QQihZ012QQcategoryZ43477QQrdZ1QQssPageNameZWD2VQQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp1638Q2em122

The only other place I can think you could try is at local computer fairs .. have a look at the following 2 web addresses and see of there is a computer fair near you ..

I'll understand if there are of no use to you , if your not in NSW.. but it's an idea you might not thought of to try and find the 512Mb cards ..
