Yoz, In my more recent 4x4 trips i have being having some issues with really step hill climbs and some mud pits (out the back of mount mee) and upon trying to think of away to over come some of these problems my dad walks into my room and practically slams an ALDE pamflet on my desk, On the front page it has a Winch for $499.
Now i know general pricing for lift kits, shocks, springs, engine acc and the usual crap however i have no clue what Winches are worth. So in closing does anyone have a clue about if this 499$ is a cheap one or if it is moderatly priced. It will go on the shelf this thursday so i hope to know if i should buy it b4 the sell out.
Thnx in advance, Dayno

I would have more trust in a front Lokka, if you have not already got a winch bar then the Lokka fitted probably cost the same, and I know it works when I need it. ;D
Cheers Bruce.

At $499, it sounds like a cheap winch.. like the ones from eBay .. eg : *like this one* As an example, from Iron Man's web site, The winch page , the 9500lb is $799, the 12000lb is $899 .. From the T-Max site, the T-Max 9000lb /6.6 HP winch is around the $900 mark, High end gear, like Warn Winches, they start at around the $1300 mark and go up to about $3200 ... Plus your look at all the other gear to go with it, like isolating solonoids, a 2nd battery ( for 24V systems, or a deep cycle one for 12V systems) , the remote lead (if it's not stndard with the winch), etc.. possibly an uprate alternator aswell ... when you really load up a winch, up at it's upper end, you could be pulling 400-450 amps or even more, for the winch motor ! There are a lot of things to consider before putting a winch on , apart from the electricals, you'll need to consider your bull bar (is it made to have a winch installed), your front suspension ( extra weight up front from the winch), etc .. LOL, sounds like I'm telling you off, but a $499 winch sounds like a cheap one..

That ebay winch looks identical to the Gew winches here. They do the job. The one in the catalogue might be ok but you need to post the specs to be sure. As Elysan says though buying the winch is only half the money. If you dont have a winch capable bumper you have to buy or make one. You will probably get away with the standard battery if just doing occasional work but you should look at upgrades to the battery and alternator (I havent yet) You might need to upgrade your front suspension but normaly just winding up the torrsions to the same hight is enough. How do Ausi rule like winches on 4wds?

From memory i paid 550 to my door. A very good wench for its price even if its a generic one. cheers muvit

Thanks for the info, Originally my Rodeo had a Winch but the barstard who sold it to me took it off. So yes my Bull bar can support having it and also its a custom bar from the bloke before me so i know it can handle the stress involved. In regaurds to the battery issue, I already have an upgraded alternator and 2 batteries. (Keep in mind the bloke before me was a 4x4 enthusiast aswell) basically i already meet all the requirements to allow me to get a winch however of course with the price of diesel now at $1.72 in Caboolture here, 1/3rd of my wage each week goes towards travel each week so i really cannot afford to pay for a top end Winch so when i saw this one for $499 i figured it might be a cheap yet semi decent accessory to help get me out of tight situations when there are no other 4x4s around. As elysian so Kindly sourced here is the specs of said ALDE Winch, It goes on sale tomorrow so here is what i will do. Tomorrow i will race home first and check this thred, if i get more replies "For The Idea" or "Against The Idea" it will decide the fate of my pay check. www.aldi.com.au/au/html/offers/2827_5092.htm

I got nothing against the ALDI winch, it might be a little ripper ! .. my main concerns (for anything really) is the service/support for it and replacement parts ... what happens when you have an issue that needs a new part or a warranty claim ? Do you take it back to the store and they deal with the service/support, or do they send you the parts, or do you need to box it up and send it to a place in Australia to get fix, or does it need to go overseas ? Even in Australia, sending something around the 40kg mark is not cheap by AUSpost, or a courier..

Usually with these Chinese items they are usually a replacement warranty as there are no repairers or parts available.

Well i went down to ALDE after work 2day to buy the generic winch and would you believe they were "Sold Out" -__- I asked how many they ordered into the store. the check out chick said "3" tell me, what kind of a store orders only 3 of any item?........ So either for better or for worse i saved $499 which ill put towards my insurance bill which is comming up sadly.
