They look good and at the price if they only go half the distance a BFG goes you break even.Mudgrip down your way has fitted them to his new bighorn and I belive likes them. They havent been available long enough yet for anyone to wear them out. They only got to NZ last year

Yes bought a set of 33 mudstars after looking at a couple of mus with them - including powertruck's. Very nice chunky tread pattern (15-16mm tread depth ) and fit well on my latest bighorn with it's 3-4" lift. Have done 1200ks now and taken them for a couple of offroad outings and find they are fairly quiet on the road - a bit of hum similar to hankook RTO1s but not noisy. Track very well on the highway and are rated Q which is to 160kph. 5 ply tread and 2 ply sidewalls - one ply less than BFGs on the side, but still quite sturdy.
Offroad they do the business very well so far - no problems on steep grass climbs, river shingle, bits of mud etc - giving good grip. I paid $220 each for the 33s which is a great price, and if they give even reasonable mileage they will represent good value.
I like them so far - no idea on mileage potential, but well worth a look esp if you don't do high miles in your 4x4
Mike. (must try to get some photos up of latest truck development - if I can figure out how..)

Reading a comment on another 4wd website last nite on nankang mudstars from a chap who works for beaurepaires, Gisborne. Said they'd handled the N889 mudstars for some time and they are now the tyre for forestry work because they are giving huge mileage and handle bush conditions well - so good positive feedback there. If this bears out for club people, the mudstars will prove very popular - esp at that price.

There's another good price mud tyre to have a look at also, and that is the Sumitomo Serengeti. It's available in NZ and Aus and I think imported by dunlop. Also good chunky tread pattern and early reports suggest good mileage and offroad performance. Tested along with alot of mud tyre makes by an Aussie 4wd mag recently (4WD Action?) and came in near top - almost same performance as BFGs which are much dearer. Would be worth a look - try 4WDbits.co.nz and click on mud tyres.
Very happy indeed with the nankang mudstars so far. Only done 2200ks and 2-3 offroad outings but they are ex on road and grip very well off road - the big chunks certainly bite very well. Off in to the mountains on a major club mud trip to give them a real workout next month - so will see how they perform in v tough conditions. As Geeves notes - looks like you'd need 16" rims for the metric equivalent 35s though.
Mike.
