Just like mine. Starter motor had definitely breathed its last breath. as below Water had got in and seized the bearings which had spun in the housing then collapsed The armature had worn through the stator coils causing a short. All that happened when the starter engaged was a little click and voltage drop at the brand new fully charged 700cca battery to 7v. The starter mounting bolts were seized to the point that getting it out required a 1.5 meter breaker bar in the socket even after soaking in crc for a day A volt meter across the battery should tell whats going on. At rest it should read 12 to 12.5 volts. Anything less than 12 and the battery is flat. If you turn the headlights on it should drop no more than 0.2v. if it does charge and try again. If still no good your battery is shot. turn lights off and try and start. It should drop to about 10.5 when cranking Anything from 10 to 11 is ok. If it doesnt drop look for a bad connection between the battery and stater. If the voltage goes low then the battery is not fully charged, too small (should be 700cca) or bad or you have a short in the starter. If all looks good check the voltage at the starter This will prove to the starter or not. The readings at the starter should be pretty much the same as at the battery

After overhauling my 3.1 D BH Inter cooler I have had it back to the Garage and Auto Electricians costing an xtra 2k. But I still have a problem ie: I turn the key on and all it does is a very low single click.Nothing else. I have had the Alternator repaired, a new battery etc etc can anybody help had enough of garages. please help, stuffed Auto Elect called back with No Pay, they found rusted points in the solenoid, sanded these and bingo eng starts. Makes ine wonder what was the original prob. Thanks for the contributions,

Wish mine had been that easy and cheap. Nothing salvageable from my spare starter and the one in the truck. Auto sparky was quite definite about never getting the starter motor wet. He looked at me funny when I told him I would be on Sunday on a beach trip ie salt water. Maybe thats why Im on my 4th alternator
