Has anyone replaced the bushes in the top control arm on a 3.1 mu? I had mine out today as the old ones we worn. The bush has seized onto the shaft which proved to be a real pain getting them off. I've replaced them with noltec bushes which are suppose to be much better than the standard ones but ive noticed it rides quite harsh in the front now. Has anyone out there run these bushes and if so did you notice much of a difference.

According to the workshop manual you are supposed to torque them up with the suspension part compressed (15mm clearance at the bump stop) - the shop had done it with suspension at full droop, so the bushes were twisted just about to the limit before you put any extra load on the suspension. After slacking them off and the re-torquing with the suspension taking the weight it all started to work properly again. With your MU the front end is pretty similar, so it might be worth checking this out

urathane bushes are ok but once the lube is gone (sev years or river crossings) they squeak like old bed springs

That might explain why mine rides really harsh now. When you say you torque the nuts down do you mean you move the arm to the position that its 15mm from the bumpstop then lock them? You could always do it on the ground but its a bit hard when the tyre is on there so prob wouldnt work to well.
thanks for the info

Those instructions are for rubber bushes which twist internaly rather than urethane that rotates on the spindle

ok so shouldnt really effect the nolathane bushes? I noticed when i put the new bushes in and tightened the control arm up that is rotated alot better. The factory bushes wouldnt rotate the same like they were grabbing.
Are the bottom a arm bushes very similar to the top ones? looks like quite a big job to do the bottom ones
