Sorry it is a 2.8 td with 100ks on clock, the turbo gust does seem to pull on the hills.

Could be a few things. This engine does like to rev Do change down as virtualy no power much below 2000 This is normal. Does it smoke? Change your air and fuel filter Whats the ecconomy like? With the fuel Unless you have been getting fuel from dodgy sources it should be ok. Only issue that can come up is summer diesel in the tank but running in a cold place like central north island of south island. Unless you last filled up in a warm place and have moved or have had the fuel a long time this shouldnt be an issue.

hi this truck is in aussie, its our winter fun .the fuel is ok we have a k&n filter, and changed other filters all the time, somebody told me you adjust the fuel pump to give it more fuel , the economy is pretty good , get around 650ks on 65 ltr tank, it justis gutlles on the hills , we have a 2.8 td bighorn here in NZ and it would run rings around the rodeo on the hills

I would take it to a good diesel service shop for a tune - esp if not idling properly. Re no power - does it smoke at all esp when under hard acceleration - any black smoke? If its getting adequate fuelling it will puff a bit of black when you boot it hard - unburnt diesel.
I'd take it to a good diesel shop and ask them to tune the motor - checking first tightness of valve clearances - sometimes esp with imports these have been over tightened to keep the motors quiet - apparently can hamper performance some.
Then ask them to advance the diesel pump timing. On some trucks - eg my present one - the pump injection timing was actually running retarded from factory specs and was not initially performing very well.
Then if needed, bit by bit increase the diesel flow (one screw on the diesel pump - one quarter turn to start with, then eighth or sixteenths of a turn each adjustment) until it starts to blow good black under load at 3000rpm - then back it off a bit.
Your diesel mechanic can do this easily if it is a mechanical not an electronic pump. This should help alot and takes less than one hour.
If still no improvement, then he will have to perhaps do compression and leakdown test - though this should not be an issue on a 4JB1T with just 100ks, check turbo operation etc.
Good luck, Mike

hey thanks for that advice, one mechanic told me holden use to run them lean , but holden didnt know how to fix it, I wondered if it had a faulty glow plug on start up , because once it was warm it was fine
