Does anyone know what the switch (on a 97 Bighorn - 4JG2) does that has the symbol of an engine block with a glow plug in the middle. Its the left most switch to the left of the digital clock in the centre part of the dash area. Manual in Japanese so none the wiser
Cheers

soulds like it could be the self destruct..... i mean cold engine warm up? if it is when the temp is cool enough you can use it, it operates a butterfly valve in the exhaust pipe (which after not being used for a long time gets stuck) and warms the engine up faster ive disconnected mine.

Unless you live in central Otago/Canterbury and do short trips that switch doesnt do anything useful. It works as described above but not unless your coolant temp is below 5C. A lot of people have removed the whole thing

Thanks for the replies - I do live in Canterbury and its pretty chilly at this time of the year, but the vehicle is garaged so sounds like i need to put a pair of sidecutters thru the wires conected to the switch in case the kids push it in !! Shes a real sweet starter (even in the cold) so i obviously dont need it.
Cheers

dont cut the wires just in case they short out. Its better to disable the mechanism on the exhaust just under the drivers feet (4jg2 is here 4jb1 its up by the turbo)

if you pop the switch out of your dash, just unplug the wires/plug from the back of it and push it back in the hole, done
i wouldnt say it doesnt do anything usefull mines going to be the switch for my intercooler fan lol, when i find the right fan

If you leave it all alone you will get the best result. If the switch is out, nothinjg will happen. If it is in, nothing will happen unless temperature is less than a certain level.
