hey guys,
I have been told i need a new diesel injector pump for my 1998 Wizard. it has the 3.1TD efi in it.
I have managed to come accross a second hand unit done approx 180kms but it is out of the 1998 Bighorn (turbo intercooled)
my question - will the efi diesel injector pump, fit straight onto my wizard? both have the same motor with efi, except the bighorn is intercooled.
any help appreciated?
i dont like the idea of paying $2500 to get my existing unit rebuilt!!!
cheers
Nathan

if i was you id get my injector pump rebuilt. if you buy the 2nd hand one u might be buying something thats on its last legs and then uve wasted all that money plus if you rebuild it you will get a warranty with it. i know this doesnt answer your question but i thought id give you my opinion

Where are you?
They should be compatible pumps so should fit ok but Im with wayne on this one unless something really bad has happened to your pump. That price seems very high It pays to get a couple of quotes. When I had the seals done in my pump I got quotes from all 3 diesel places in Wellington. First quote 800 second was 800 if you take the pump out add 400 if we do it, third was 150. He was very apologetic that it had taken longer than he thought and he had to add another 100 to the job meaning he was still only just over a quarter of the next closest price

im in hamilton geeves. Got quoted $2500, from a place here in hamilton to do the whole job, and they are said to be isuzu specialists. also got quoted from a guy on trademe "worst case" $2600 and that was for me to send it up to him in Auckland!
funny thing is, i dont have $2500 sitting arround collecting dust, so i'd rather pay $150 for a second hand unit at his stage.
my truck doesnt seem to be doing the symptoms it was when i took it in. its intermittant. seems to be searching at idle, revving from 900rpm to 500rpm. still very much drivable but just annoying. now its stopped doing it.

that sounds more like a sensor than the pump. Thats very cheap for a good pump.Do remember theres 2 or 3 hours labour to take the pump off and back on If it starts doing it again try unpluging all the wires on the pump and plug them back in 2 or 3 times to clean the contacts. Do one wire at a time

could the aircon be a possible cause?

Just wondering how this worked out for you. My car searches for it's idle speed, and I've been told it is the pump. Problem is it's intermittent and sometimes it does it all the time at idle and sometimes it goes away for weeks. I'm not keen to fork out $2500 for a pump recon only to find it was a sensor or wiring fault. Cheers

Those sorts of problems can be a pain to find. If an unsteady idle is the only symptom I would live with it. There should be some sort of diagnostic on that engine but if it shows nothing then its either the pump or the computer Neither are cheap
