94 bighorn has good brakes If you are lacking actual stopping power check that the caliper slides are not siezed and also that the pistons can be pushed back by hand. The slides are easily taken apart and regreased If the pistons are siezed its better to let the experts rebuild the calliper as there is a fair chance the pistons will be shot. Center city autos in Porirua did mine. If its a case of only being able to operate the brakes 2 or 3 times in quick succsession theres little yopu can do except fitting an additional vacume tank. Somr bigghorns had these from factory. If theres anything wrong with the braking system the warning light will come on every time. You dont have abs do you as this adds a few extras to check

Knowing the theory on how to do something doesnt always make it practical to do oneself. One of my pistons was well and truly seized I never tryed the other. As the consesus was that the piston would be rusted and this garage can get remade pistons it was logical to give him both calipers. That way there is a guarantee on the work. He was able to use compressed air to dislodge the piston which I dont have and once the 20 years of accumulated "stuff" was cleaned off the pistons were ok. I cant remember if the price was 150 each or for the pair. This was callipers delivered and collected in a box. He also sells some very nice german pads that work like magic once they bed in. Stainless wouldnt solve the problem of the slides siezing as corrosion doesnt seem to be the cause. Only answer is replaceing the cup seals on the slides if they are shot and a good very high temp grease. Ive been advised to use rubber grease. Even with this they still need redoing every 2 years Andrew is still around and has Richards Grey Mu for a road car but drives a Zuk off road as does Richard these days.

does anyone know how to improve the brake performance of a 1994 big horn ,is it possible to increase the pressure from the alternator pump Hi There is something else you can do that i did if it is more pressure you want?. I upgraded my brake booster & master cylinder from the isuzu one to a GQ patrol one & funny enough it all lined up perfectly without any mods & it's around a inch bigger in circumference. Needless to say big braking difference now but keep in mind it was off a long wheelbase truck retrofitted to a SWB one. My next bake upgrade will be twin piston pots on the rear but thats a while off. cheers muvit
