well ive got a Irmscher R Bighorn 2.8 manual ever since ive had it its had a bit of a whinny gearbox but have had no trouble with it until 2nite driving along slowing down for the intersection change from 4th to 3rd and i geta big crunch! im like wtf? go from 3rd to 2nd mint, taking off go 2nd to 3rd and its sweet so i thought it must have just been a lazy clutchin, so go from 4th to 3rd again and the same problem i just dont get it!? i dont know alot about gearboxes but im thinking theres 2 syncros for each gear 1 for downchange 1 for upchange? it just feels like theres no syncro at all. i can usually change 4th to 3rd no clutch easy but no matter how hard i try its a constant grind. any help would be appreciated cheers

A few possibilities Most of them are not nice as they are inside the box. Did this happen suddenly or has it been getting worse over time? What milage? First replace the gearbox oil Use the cheapest engine oil you can find. When you drain the old oil drain it into a clean container so you can check for contamination (5 liter container) Any cloudyness or metal bits would inicate bad things. Beyond this you are looking at a gearbox out repair. I can send you the gearbox manual if you want but remember this is a very heavy box and needs jacks etc to handle. There are plenty of these gearboxes at wreckers Its upto you if you use a second hand one or get yours fixed Where are you?
