Hi all. I just got the"92 auto MU back from the mechanics after having some seals done on the injectors. The problem I have now got is the overdrive light on the dash. Since I bought the MU, the switch in the gear selector either showed no light when O/D was on, or O/D off if it was switched off. Seemed pretty straight forward. Since the seals were done, the light says overdrive off if it is off, all fine so far, but flashes overdrive off when it is on. Any ideas people? Thanks Ian

OK, not much help received yet, so after taking the MU for a drive finally, I will expand on newer received information. The overdrive works fine, unlike other threads with similar flashing O/D light, just the light flashing O/D off when it is in fact on. My local auto specialist thinks it might be a fault code from the auto transmission computer. He suggests disconnecting the battery, pump the brake pedal 8 times to release any stored electricity in capacitors, wait 10 minutes, and reconnect the battery. If it is a fault, the code should reappear, but if was only a glitch, the flashing light should disappear. Any thoughts people? Many thanks in advance Ian

wont hurt but you will have to retune the radio and Im not putting a lot of money on this being a fix. The overdrive light does indicate the fault codes. I am emailing you the manual for the auto which should help

Yes Geeves, you were right. I disconnected the battery, pressed the brake 8 times, waited 10 minutes, and restarted, but the flashing "O/D on" light came back after a couple of seconds. You said you were going to email the manual, have you had a chance to do this yet?, and if so, was this going to my email account or that special isuzunz gmail one? Cheers and thanks Ian

I sent it to your optusmail account. Maybe it was too big or got treated as spam. Its also in the gmail. Go to gmail and login as isuzunz pass 4jb1turbo. You might need to click on "all mail" Look for a subject AW30-80LE gearbox and download the attachment.

Thanks geeves. I got it from the gmail site, no problems, and many thanks. Now for the technical bit. Page 14 says to get the code, by "Using a service wire, short the DG terminal and body ground." Can you or anyone else explain this in language a non technical idiot could understand? Cheers Ian

looking at the picture beside the instruction I would guess that its one of the 2 wires in the plug shown. Hopefully its labeled. I have a manual so cant check mine.

OK, I give up. I have taken the MU to an auto specialist, and an auto electrician, but neither of them can find the computer connection. I guess it must have fallen off somewhere, that could be why the O/D on light is flashing. I was trying to determine the fault to sell the MU, but don't want to pass a possible problem onto an innocent buyer. I took the Mu to a local used car dealer, and he's offered me $2700 for the MU which has current rego and safety certificate Qld roadworthy). Sound too cheap, but I guess I don't have much option if I can't find out why the bloody light is flashing. No obvious problems with the transmission operation, just this stupid flashing warning light. Thanks for your help. Cheers Ian

The pic on page 14 should show clearly where it is

Yeah, that's where it probably should be. I first assumed that it was near the bonnet release, then after looking at page 14 better, I thought the picture was a left hand drive, and checked there as well. Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be in there anywhere. The auto transmission expert said it wasn't where he knew it was in others, and spent half an hour searching under the dash both sides, and the engine compartment. He said either I don't have one (unlikely) looks different to normal ones, or is hidden somewhere. He then sent me to an auto electrician, who also looked for around 10 minutes and coudnlt find it. He said it might have been shoved in behind the radio behind the console. I looked there over the weekend, and found nothing. Sounds like time for the Twilight Zone music to start. Cheers

I've got a 2.8 MU '93 here, The debug cable connector for the Auto (on a right hand drive) is hidden among the cable mess up above the right drivers kick panel. The connector is a 3-pin terminal (2 white, 1 black)with a rather distinctive green connector, Mines got about 15cm worth of wire on it. From memory mine was wrapped around several other cables up behind the fuse box, but it could be anywhere in there really.. To read off the debug codes, Connect a cable to earth ( i use an alligator-clip on the cig lighter socket), turn the ignition to on (don't start tho), make sure the OD button is in the "Overdrive on" position, And then hold the ground wire to the black wire on the connector. The OD light should start flashing after a few seconds, If it doesn't do it on that wire, try the others on the socket. I'll recheck the cables when i get back to my car later, and might possibly get a photo for the location of it if it'll help.(Tho theres so many wires i don't see how it will )EDIT: Checked, and updated post. Its 2White, 1black, Ground the black wire to get debug codes. If a photo is needed by anyone, email me at "handle @ handle .id.au" where handle is 'dd32' One thing to note about the cable: The manual specifies that the voltage on one of the pins should rise depending on which gear its in, I could never work out where that voltage was (It appeared to not be there) so while you can short it to get the debug output, I'm not sure what else the connection is good for

Hi DD32 Thanks for your detailed response, it covered everything I needed. Unfortunately it's too late for me because I gave up and sold the Mu last week, but I think others will benefit from your informative post. Cheers
