its a heated mirror are the heating elements part of the mirror glass or can i replace just the mirror glass with a doner mirror glass, i have chrome mirrors.

Glass shop should be able to replace the glass but its unlikly they can do heated but unless you live somewhere really cold do you need heated. Otherwise its a case of hunt the wreckers or visit the local holden dealer (if there is a chair there sit down before they tell you the price)

cheers geeves, heated mirrors sound like something you dont really need but once you have them and you find they can clear rain off of your mirrors within like 5 minutes they become real handy, i dont really shop at wreckers for parts because i dont like the having to sit down aspect lol pick a part is good though, but trademe is very good, i can do it from here and source parts from all over NZ and pick the best option for me.
i was just wondering if the mirror glass and the heater element are one complete unit, i could pull it apart and find out but i would rather pull it apart once i have the parts ready to fix it.
if the mirror glass is seperate to the element then sourcing parts is easier any Mu/wizzard mirror will do heated or not.

OK an update on my broken mirror, that might save people here a few bucks if they find them selves in the same boat. i went to a glass place and they said they normally glue a piece of glass of the broken mirror, but mine was slightly curved and may not work to well also they were not sure if the mirror would heat the the extra layer, cost was about $40 so i got a mirror complete of TM, $40, paid for it then waited 3 weeks...... but that another story, i have chrome mirrors and the one i brought was black, i looked at it very carefully and decided to remove every screw i could then pull the mirror glass out and see what i didnt need to remove, part of the mechinism behide the mirror was broken which helped, i got it out and found you dont need to remove any screws at all, the black mirror backing is hinged at the top and clips onto the white plastic base at the bottom, all you need to do to replace a broken mirror glass is to tilt the glass back so you can see up inside, insert a flat blade screw driver between the back of the mirror and the white base and pry it until it goes pop, hinge it up, pull it out and disconnect the heater wires/plug, then pop the replacement in, but when putting it back in make sure all the clips are back in place by looking up in with a torch, i had to push a few they didnt pop back in with my screw driver, but its all good now. here are some pictures to show what i mean.

cheers for the heads up, but mines all sorted now, what i was getting at was if anyone breaks the mirror glass, you dont need to replace the whole wing mirror, just the mirror glass, so if you have chrome mirrors like me you dont have to try and find a complete chrome mirror to swap over, a standard black one will do fine, just swap the bits over.
