It would be illegal and immoral of us to tell you to remove it easily from the gearbox which is the easiest way. It attaches near the back of the transfer case on the right hand side. It shouldnt leak but if it does a trip to the wreckers for a spare cable only attached at the gearbox end will fix. Be warned I have heard of Mr plod stopping cars noting the speedo then telling the drive to drive a km or 2 up the road and then checking again. I have also seen vehicals at Turners auctions where the mileage was over by 80000km effectively making the car worthless (car needing $4000 milage worth 4500 tops)

Guy. If your Mu is an auto by removing speedo cable it wont go into overdrive and will rev quite high at motorway speeds

You used to be able to claim rebates for off road travel Dont know if you still can. The system was messy and designed to make it too much like hard work but with the new ruc prices it could be worth a go

Removeing a switch would be easy just reconect the wires but its only the very late model cars with electronic speedos that this would work for in the first place. Best way is just goe to the wreckers and buy a spare speedo so you can wind it back and swap before the ruc runs out then wind back the original. Neither me or this website is suggesting this idea but the easiest way to wind back a speedo is to hook it up to a fairly slow drill and wind forwards till it comes back round. Dont run it faster than max speed. You also need to make sure that at each wof the milage is higher than last wof

i may or may not have a switch on mine the way i see it the government are taxing the hell out of everything so i choose not to pay the full amount of this "voluntary" tax ;D the trick on later efi diesels and autos is run a seperate wire to the computer with the speed signal so that when you switch off the speedo the computer can still operate everything correctly. i don't think i'd risk it on cable operated speedo's as you can't flick a switch if the law decide to pull you over for a check. i've heard they put a mirror under the vehicle to see if the cable is plugged into the box

Could you have a mechanized method of connecting and disconnecting the speedo at the dashboard. eg stick a piece of pipe at the back of the speedo then attach a wire on to the cable that you use to connect and disconnect the cable. like a plunger.

either you pay rucs on a diesel or you pay the same amount of tax built into the petrol. Only 2 legal ways to avoid it A: buy a bicycle B: walk But with the price of milk like it is your better off paying the tax

there is another legal way to avoid it option C, but i can see why you left it out, sometimes people want to get to their destination, without that 2-3 hour wait and public transport just doesnt cut it lol, plus if your like me every time you have used it theres a drunk smelly bum that stops the whole train so he can relieve himself off the back lol
