Hey everyone,
My new Lovells springs (HR-15) have arrived at the store, before I pay the balance and get them posted up, I was wondering if I will need new u-bolts for the install (replacing factory '93 MU leaves)? I'll get some new rubber bushes too.
Double-checking; putting in the new springs, winding up the torsion bars and doing a ball joint flip, the standard shocks will be ok?
Cheers, Andy.

Shocks should be ok but check that the rears are by unbolting the bottom of the shock then jack the rear of the car till full suspension drop. The shock should hang below its mount on the axle plate not above in which case the shock is too short. Under 10mm too short wont hurt but you lose travel. When I used the heavy duty springs on the bighorn I needed the longer U bolts but if yours are std springs you should be ok. If not you need the longer U bolts for a landcruiser as they are the same. How much were the lovels springs now?

Thanks for info Geeves, They are the HR-15's which are said to be "standard height HD" or "raised height" in the Lovells catalog. I'll give them a ring tomorrow and see if they think I need them... Probably will say I do to get more bucks out of me . P&H Suspension City in Hamilton charged me $580 to get them over from Aus, don't know the price of u-bolts or bushes yet...

ive got the HR-15 from Lovells in my Mu will give you good lift unloaded bit stiff but with box tools straps hand winch and wire cable works the rear leafs well. still might remove the load leaf for more flex but ok for now waiting for them to settle only had them for about six months and havnt been out much std shocks will be ok when fitting maybe angle diff up with wedges i havnt yet but going to will help UJ on the drive shaft last longer. theres a few more leafs than the std ones and i used longer and thicker U bolts not sure if you have to tho. i also have the front of Mu sitting 25mm lower than the back to retain some travel in the front

Cheers daisy, sounds like my choice of non-HD leaves was the right one, was a bit unsure.
Good to see the NZ members still around on the forum, those Aussie boys seem to be getting all the fun at the moment haha.

When I did my springs I also used the heavy duty but remember mine is a lwb bighorn The original U bolts would only hook up about 2 threads so it was a quick hunt round for the u bolts. I bought the springs from a boy racer shop instead of a 4wd place so they were no help but I managed to find out from G Guy motors that 40 series cruisers are the same and he could supply the longer bolts. Not too expensive but they had 30mm hanging out the end so I cut them down flush with the bottom of the bracket which leave 10mm out the end of the nut. I didnt own an angle grinder then so cut them in situ with a hacksaw. Its a method that is good for fitness and arm strength (8 high tensile bolts 12mm while lying on your back) 1 word of warning Do retorque the nuts after a couple of months. I didnt and the diff moved nearly an inch forwards on one side.

Yup, got them waiting in the garage. Didn't come in any packaging... So after closer inspection I might repaint a few spots...
I got some new u-bolts too. Was told I'd have to cut the ends off as well.
Leaves, u-bolts and postage came to $660.
Got them from P&H Suspenion City.

Not a bad price. Mine were a little over half that but that was 5 or 6 years ago. Did they come with new bushes? The front bushes are very hard to press out of the old springs and it would be silly not to do the bushes at the same time. Think safety while changing the springs. I imagine dropping a Mu on an arm or leg is an unpleasant experience. You need to support the chassis on blocks and use the jack to align the diff

I'll send you the invoice they sent me. Then you can get them to bring it up, and ask why the price is different. MSN.
