Hey guys just wondering for those of you who have catch cans how much oil you are collecting?? How much oil would you go thru between oil changes say 5000km

Mine was empter till I done a beach run. But then it was only just covering the bottem.

Hi since i've had mine on it has only ever had about 5mm of oil in the bottom of it so i dont bother with it between oil changes. I suppose my benefit would be if ever i put it on its side least the can should take the oil in instead of the turbo cheers muvit

ive checked mine between oil changes and i get a small amount bugger all really not worth checking every 5000km i check it every 3-4 months now. I dont know what the acceptable limit it but it would be interesting to know. I've noticed the truck uses maybe 0.5-1litre tops between oil changes

not all engines need the catch can. Ive never fitted one and my oil level is still above the full line 3000 hard km(70% in low range) after the last change. Some engines though will fill the catch can between changes and still not be considered faulty. Different oils can make a difference. I used to use the cheap repco excuse for oil and would use a little over a liter every 5000 then changed to delo400 with far less visable blowby at the oil filler and oil pressure that was the same at the end of the change period as the start (repco oil hot gave a 2 when the oil was new but less than 1 once old the dello kept 2 all the way) but strange leaks started apearing. Changed to valvolene and the pressure is the same as the dello the leaks have gone and still no cranckcase fumes. My engine has only done 200000km though (+- jap import adjustment) If there is no fumes when you open the filler cap on a hot or cold engine the chances are that a catch can is unneaded

mine catches heaps of oil ive got a drain on it now but i think the drain hose is to big causing the sump to pressurise my MU has 170 on the clock but im not sure if it is accurate or not just a few other things for me to work out lol befor i put the drain in it was half filling the catch can every hour and being a real bugger but after reseting the tappets to factory specs it seems to have reduced the blow by a fair bit

That amount is not good but not unheard of on isuzus. The blowby goes to the sump first then through the push rod holes to the tapet cover. Its not your drain that is pressurising the sump. I have heard of very bad cases preventing the oil from draining from the turbo causing turbo failure. It sounds like a set of rings will be on your xmas list

what is a catch can my mu has done 160.000ks 3.1 d/t and does not use a drop of oil at allGuy

Basicly a catch can is a chamber in the cranckcase vent pipe that feeds any fumes into the intake. The chamber slows the fumes down so any oil falls to the bottom of the can which can drain back into the sump or require emptying from time to time. If you use no oil then your like me and dont need one yet but on some engines they can reduce oil consumption by up to a liter per 1000km or more.
