I agree but don't believe its a switch. Its a thermistor to drive the gauge. An easier way would be visit a radiator specialist and get them to fit a thermo switch into the radiator tank. Ideally it should be in the bottom tank and set to about 80C but it will work just about as well if fitted in the top tank and set about 92C You can do the top tank without removing the radiator. The fan setting is not about engine temp but more radiator temp. If the engine is working fairly hard the water inside will reach 100C or slightly more but if you are traveling at more than 50kph the radiator gets enough cooling even without the fan so setting the fan at around the same temp will mean its only used when absolutely necessary. The bottom tank method works better because its takeing the temp of the water that has been cooled so needs a lower setting

the first pic with the 2 wires coming out,they are for diesel engines ,i put one from a petrol engine and it never switch on,but this one did.
