Um yes. They get the good ol wind up and then when you change gears, they make that really high pitched DOW sound. Personally whilst the sound is quite cool, it would drive me nuts after a while. I don't know how legal it is either, yeah you see heaps of patrols getting around with shortened exhausts and no real mufflers, but you also see them around with 7 inch lifts as well. Qld is a lot tougher on vehicles than NSW, I don't think you would see the friendly side of a policeman if they were to pull you over for it.

In NZ they have just bought in new rules for noise. For a modified car the rule says 95db which will be reduced in a couple of years to 90.This includes modified exhausts. A couple of catches though std exhausts on cars older than now still pass. I believe the HSV Comadoor is 97db. The way I read this a HSV could only ever be fitted with genuine parts or it would fail even if these are factory identical parts. Currently a cop or wof tester will refer you to a certifier to test your noise if its belived to be too loud. Certifier gets about 150 for the test but a local certifier so has not actually performed the test Hes just asked the drivers if they think it would pass and they go away and quieten things so the wof man will pass. Lifes defiantly a lot quieter in the evenings now.
