Hi I have just had the engine rebuilt (new head etc) and now it seems to be running very rich at idle and first starting up. blows a lot of smoke.
Can the low load/idle fuel settings be adjusted on the EFI pumps?? or any other idea why it is running rich The mechanic said needs a new pump at about $2500.

Is the smoke diesel or oil? New engines frequently burn oil for the first few 1000km Diesels dont work the same as petrol and dont have mixture as such. Diesel engine always gets as much air as it can and burns whatever fuel you give it. ie more fuel = more power or revs He could have the timing out or there could be a problem with the injectors. Before spending 2500 I would get a second opinion from a diesel specialist but this dont sound good

Hi smoke is diesel, not oil smoke. The injectors were rebuilt as part of the rebuild. Took it in for a WOF today and failed the "smoke test"! I thought there wasa some sort of fuel fine tuning available on the EFI models. Taking it back to the engine shop to sort out monday Thanks Justin
