2000 Wizard - Auto downshifts to 3rd when auxiliary light switch operated.( in conjunction with wand switch). No problem when wand switch operated without aux' lights. ?? Any reasonable idea considered. Cheers, Paul.

Factory fog/driving as fitted. Recent purchase vehicle. Problem unknown to previous owner. (Never used fog light switch).

sounds like a wireing fault maybe factory mistake too inside the loom making hard to find. Might need an auto sparky

Thanks Geeves. Too much electronics for this old fella.( bring back hillman hunter technology!) I reckon on re-wiring the switch direct to a seperate relay with its own feed, with operation only on high beam. Your comments? Cheers, Paul.

Probably how I would tackle it if the answer isnt obvious. One quick question Where is the aux switch? This is a random guess but my toyota has the aux switch on the center consol not far from where your auto selector is When you open this open the truth might spring out at you Who knows. Its a strange problem

Switch in a unit of 3, top right of steering wheel. Unit has Engine warm up, driving/spot light and 4WD selector. Engaged the old grey matter during a senior moment today, seems the auto box would be held back from O/D and stay in 3rd if engine temp is below a certain setting, therefore a wire fault when lights selected would send a false signal to ecu to hold . ( make sense?). SO, a seperate feed system should remove the problem......... ( or should I consult with a first politician?) Nothing is simple..... Cheers, Paul.

rewireing the lights will fix unless the fault is the other side of the relay. That is unless you replace this wireing as well but then you lose the ability for the wand to turn the fog lights on and off unless you copy the original wiring completely. I used to love tracing faults like this but too lazy these days.

Rewired in an external relay from selector switch and bypassed original system. All works as it should. Round one to me!!
