Has any one changed a 2.8l (4jb1t) for a 3.1 (4jg2t, think it's the right code) and detail any problems they had to overcome. and can anyone clear up the rumors of the 3.1's been a tad unreliable compared to the 2.8's.

neither motor is very tolerant of bad maintenance so when buying a second hand engine there is always a little bit of a gamble. In general both engines are very reliable with only the 2.7 nissan engine comeing close in the small diesel range. However the 3.1 is known to crack heads and has had unexplainable overheating issues in hot climates. We have examples of the 3.1 with over 300000km without issue and the 2.8 touching 400000km or more

cheers for the good oil Geeves Just to let you know I've soured a 4JB1T with 105k and 6 month warranty on it from in Oz but thanks for the leads while I was in NZ.
