Hi guys, I’m fresh to the forum and I’m sorry if this has been covered before, but I did have a good look around the forum and came up with nothing.
I've only had my MU for under a week now, so I’m not very clued up on it yet, but, on the way home today I had the uni behind the yolk let go and the under carriage copped a bashing.
I plan on changing the rear uni while I have the tail shaft out, but every auto shop I go to look at me stupidly when I say "Isuzu mu" and I’m getting sick of it.
Could someone please fill me in on what Australian manufactured car/s share the same uni's as the 91 MU? Keep in mind I am changing both ends of the tail shaft, if they are different, please let me know.
Any response is greatly appreciated.
- Michael

Also same as Hilux If it let go to the point that the shaft hit the underbody you could have serious damage to the driveshaft. This will be a bit harder to sort and you might need to get a second hand one from NZ.

Thanks for the replys fellas. I ended up at CBC bearings near my work where the bloke behind the counter, who might I add was very patient, was very helpful in finding the hardy spicer brand replacement.
The unis, front and back are identicle and I will edit this post later on with the part number. The yolk was fairly damaged and when I went to the wreckers for a replacement, I was handed a free tail shaft assembl complete with yolk because he couldn't be arsed removing it. So geeves, I did end up replacing the shaft also. Thanks for the advice.
To add to the question, one of my drive belts let go and once again Repco don't list an Isuzu mu in their system. So my question is, did the amigo come with a 4jb1t?
Thanks again for the replys
Cheers

Didn't you wonder what that strange vibration was, before it let go completely? No the Amigo wasn't available with the 4JB1T or any other diesel engine. It is only recently that cars in the USA are being manufactured with diesel engines.

I just replaced the rear universal joint near the transfer case on the MU yesterday. The part number says RUJ2033 UNIVERSAL JOINT - JACKAROO/RODEO it was $45. Two of the ends didn't have any needle bearings left. The only way you could tell there was a problem was to press the accelerator and let go of the accelerator and you could hear this clunking noise.

Ive had a couple of unis go. First one shook so much the car was undriveable above 50kph. The wheels were leaving the ground. Others barely even made a clunck even with the needles gone and the caps cracked By drive belt I hope you mean a fan belt not the timeing belt. Belt nos here www.clubisuzu.com/Workshop_Parts.html

Didn't you wonder what that strange vibration was, before it let go completely? I did, but it had only vibrated for enough time to slow down from 80 to 40 before the big bang, followed by swearing. I just replaced the rear universal joint near the transfer case on the MU yesterday. The part number says RUJ2033 UNIVERSAL JOINT - JACKAROO/RODEO it was $45. Wow, who charged you that much? i paid $18 each at CBC, i'll have to find that receipt and get the part numbers to post them up. By drive belt, i don't mean fan or timing belt, i mean the two that go around the power steering, air con and harmonic ballancer. It looks to me like there is one primary and one backup. i've been driving with 1 but the second looks ever so slightly frayed, so i am getting a bit more impatient in tracking down a replacement. Thanks for the link though, i'll give it a look. Cheers - Michael

The air con/ power steering pump/ crank pulley belts are A59 The A59 is same as DAYCO TOPCOG GOLD LABEL 17600 13A1525
The engine belt ie water pump/alternator/ crank pulley is DAYCO TOPCOG GOLD LABEL 22405 15A1030 or equivalent.

Take the existing belt off and take it to your favorite parts store They can match it from either the number on the belt or by measureing it on a special jig. Do the alternator belt at the same time or you will have a repeat of the last part of the drive shaft failure. (the bit after the bang). The alternator belt is much harder to change than the other ones which have to come off first. It will also be the same age or older. Could be well worth checking the timing belt as well which should be changed every 100000km or 6 years

Once again, thanks to all who replied for the part numbers and advice, it is greatly appreciated.
Here is the part number, as promised, for the two universals (which are identical) in the rear drive shaft. Hardy Spicer - RUJ-2100 (U/J KIT - TOYOTA) Total cost was $18ea from CBC Bearings.
Maybe someone could fill us in on whether or not the front drive shaft shares the same universals? If not, I'll find out this weekend when i set about replacing them.
Cheers

they are the same and you got a very very good price. awesome I literally just now went and bought another two on my lunch break because i like to be prepared. The price i stated earlier - $18 was excluding tax, $19.80 including. I guess i'll be buying another two since these will be going in the front shaft. Cheers - Michael
