Ok here's how it goes. The first 2 pics are of my brothers 2.8 4jb1t engine. The second 2 pics are of my 2.8 4jb1t engine. We both drive 2000 model rodeos Shorty before i bought my rodeo the engine was replaced, with the replacement done approx. 60,000 ks. Im thinking the replacement was out of a Mu due to the egr's. If this is so will i have to replace my timing belt as the engine has now done approx 120,000 ks. Ive posted the pics of the timing chain cover so you Mu owners can see if i have a timing chain as ive heard the rodeos are a little different and dont need replacing?? Thanks for your help in advance. Dan

Geeves is spot on...the engine you had replaced is an import 2.8 and has the timing belt and the plastic 2piece cover. There is a good write up on this forum for the replacement procedure and the Gates belt to replace it with. I would be doing it in the next 20-40k km...replacement at 100 000km normal.
Dont stress, apart from the belt you have a good, quiet engine and should last ages if maintained.
Matt.

Cheers Matt, yeah im planning on replacing the timing belt asap along with a radiator flush and all cooling hoses. Its a great engine, runs so smooth and i service it every 5k. Just a little unsure about this belt replacement but ive read all the previous posts and the PDF so hopefully ill get it right. Dan

if its a second hand engine you dont know when the belt was last done unless you have proof of when it was done. I would do it at the same time as the other belts. If timeing belt breaks wave byebye to engine
