hey guys and girls, i just got my car back from my mechanic's and my hand brake has decided not to work. it feels as if there is slack in the cable or something similar because it pulls out about 15Cm's then it starts to pull on the cable. is there an adjuster on the brakes or anything like that cheers for your help,

First remove the callipers and lubcricate the slides. One is the bolt and the other is a sleeve that the bolt goes through. Refit but dont reattach the cables. Check both cables are free in there tubes. Clean and lube as req. Refit cables and adjust cable so both operateing levers are 0.5mm from the end stops. This should fix but if not you have an internal caliper problem

At the back of the caliper ther is a 12mm bolt. This is a cover for the 8mm allen key that adjusts the shoes. This should be self adjusting but the adjuster is far from the ideal design. If the shoes are out of adjustment you would be pushing the pedal to the floor as well. The cable adjuster is about half way along the cable by a pivot. If the cable is adjusted as above then go through the other steps above if its still faulty. Ray should know these handbrakes well
