I'm doing a driving holiday from Auckland to Wellington via Hawks Bay. If some of the locals members could advise places of interest would be great, not into commercial locations more nature. Looking for places & things to photograph. All help would be greatly appreciated.

What time are you coming and how long for? Although parts of it are very commercial you shouldn't miss a detour to Rotorua. Nothing even close in Aus. We might be able to show you some local tracks as well.

Hi Geeves, We are picking the camper up on the 22 of Nov & heading to the Mount, then following the coast road around to Gisbone as we have a business meeting there. If we have time we will continue down the coast sight seeing.

The ones you describe www.wicked-campers.co.nz/anouther similar option www.spaceships.tv/These are both what I would describe as extreme budget Little more than a bed in the back of an old van althought they do also have a small stove and a bit of built in storage. search campervans for more expensive options

Lake Waikaremoana is nice but don't go there from the Rotorua end there is about 50km of metal road that is very narrow and the locals use the full width!
I agree with Greeves about Rotorua (I used to live there), it has some unique sights. Email me and I can point you in the direction of the things to see for free.
I've also lived on Gisborne so can provide guidance on what to see there.
How many days are you planning it taking you to get from the Mount to Wellington?
