Hi guys ,
I would like to ask how much gain a Safari snorkel can add to a 4JB1TC engine . I know it means , cooler air , ram air effect , lenght of intake=more torque , etc. but how much more can you expect on terms of HP or Nm ?

well IMO i don't really consider it as a horsepower mod but a water proofing one.
i would doubt there would be any real gain really, by the time it goes though the flex and around a few bends possibly.
you are right tho the cold air is a benefit.
i didn't notice any difference after fitting mine, you might see on a dyno 1-5hp increase??

It did make a difference to power and ecconomy on mine but it would take 20 years to pay for itself on that basis. Bigger benifits come from extra engine protection than performance. ie harder to hydrolic, less dust in the air cleaner etc

In issue 123 of Australian 4wd Action, they did a huge fuel economy test, adding a snorkel saved 9.2%.
I thought it sounded like quite a large gain, maybe the factory air intake was restrictive...

The day before I put the snorkel on my Rodeo, I took the plastic box that muffles the intake roar - it sort of fills the gap beteeen the air filter & the left hand guard. This made a huge difference to the throttle response - putting snorkel on did not make any real difference - I think most of my gain came from removing the restriction.
The major benefit of the snorkel is on stinking hot days - before fitting it there was a really noticable power drop when it got hot under the bonnet, especially in heavy traffic. After fitting the snorkel hot days dont seem to bother it any more
