Hi there all . Im in need of some new rubber and have checked out some prices on them.and was checling out the BFG's same as i have on at the moment.i currently have 245/70/16 and was can get some 265/70/16 for $nz210 fited ad balanced each.compared to a price i got this morning for the 245's they wanted $355 each.the price i got on the 265's was a discount price thru my work who can get me a discount.Anyway my question is ,how far out will the bigger sized tyres put my speedo??.Have been told you can get it recalibrated but is it needed ? they tires are to be going on a stock 93bighorn 3.1 TD.Can these tyres fit my rims or will i just have to stay with the 245's ?
Many thanks to all . Appericate any help given .

yes they will fit the rims Speedo error will be about 5% but you need to check it against a known acurate one after fitting. Your allowed 10% error but remember you now get speeding tickets at 5kph over so make the appropiate allowance ie driving at 96kph on speedo Also check that the new tyres dont rub at full lock but there probably wont be a problem Thats a realy good price on BFG tyres

Mark's 4WD Adaptors make a black box the gives the speedo the corect readout, just the thing for trucks with over sized tyres & dont want tickets. This may help alot of club guys, have a look at there site. www.marks4wd.comDave

Thank you for your help : ) i just dont know what to do either go to the same size i have at moment or go for the 265's .i do plan in the near future to go for a 2" body lift and a 2"suspension lift so it would be better to go for the 265's but what would you do ? Keep it the same or go to bigger size ?? what problems will i get from the increase ?

Im prety sure the 265s will fit with no real drama Worst thing likely to happen is that your wheels might rub at full lock but you can adjust the steering stops to prevent this if it happens. You will lose a little performance as you increase the gearing but not enough to be a problem You might improve ecconomy but this has as much to do with the way you drive as anything else.In the unlikly event of them rubbing at the top of travel just do the suspensin lift a little sooner. People are running 33 inch tyres with just a 2 inch suspension lift the 265/70/16 measures just under 31 inches

I'd say the price difference outweighs any disadvantages. And the 31 10.5 15s on my Bighorn don't rub at all. Harry.

I have 265/70/16s on my 94 Big Horn with standard suspension and no problems what so ever re clearance.
Regarding the speedo I notice it is spot on with those speed display read outs sometimes set up on the side of the road. I don't know if the previous owner had it recalibrated or it has just taken up the conservative original underreading speedo??
Never been a problem with WOF with the larger than standard tyres.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for your advice Mike and everyone. Will go ge the tires in about weeks when can manage to get in there. have you had any rubbing when in 4x4 mode Mike ? As i do alot of fishing up river beds and on beaches so do get on some funny angles now and then Also how do you go for road noise, does the bighorn with them 265's make alot of noise ?

Its not the size that makes a tyre noisy except a small amount due to tread area. If your going for the same pattern then there will hardly be a differance. I belive the new KO seris BFG tyres are quiter than the older ones but still give phenominal life.

Never experienced any rubbing off road. My tread pattern is a snow/mud Yokohama tyre and it has been good. Excellent grip up & down Mt Hutt and no rocks through the sidewall on fishing trips. I bought them 2nd hand from a place in Christchurch, but next time am going to try Toyo OPATS.

Go to www.1010tires.com/TireSizeCalculator where you can find out your speedo error (with new tyres). I have 2 Mu's - one's a 2.8 on 31x10.5x15's and the 3.1's on 265x70x16's. It's interesting that the 2.8 has fractionally bigger tyres then the 3.1. As for rubbing, don't have that problem, but then it's not a bighorn. I knew the 3.1 was on bigger tyres than factory but never thought to consider speedo error. Thanks for the tip. I've never had a ticket and can't afford one. I've got better things to spend my money on. Amber

Hi guys! you guys want to know how to calculate the OD for tyres? just follow this fomula (1) (265 x 0.7x2) + (16 x 25.4) = 777.4mm (2) (245x0.7x2) + (16x25.4) = 749.4mm
