Try a double dose of injector cleaner. Also down there you get 2 different blends of diesel for summer and winter. You will be on the summer blend now but your still getting some very cold mornings.

If it was then the smokew would be bluish and smell of oil. Rather than take the breather off fit a catch can. This is a common issue

Is it real black? or more of a grey colour?
My 2.8 blows grey smoke on first strartup of the day, and from there on is fine. I have been told that this is down to either dodgey glow plugs, or the glow plug timer cutting out to early.
Ive not bothered fixing it as after that first belch in the morning it runs just fine

If its just the first few seconds to maybe a minute of running then thats probably just the way it is. Mine will do it in the colder months but by the time its backed out of the driveway its fine. Hunt down Invincable. He lives in Mosgiel and should be able to give a good second opinion

Gidday Darrin, I'm down Dunners as well. Mine blows a bit of smoke first thing in the morning. Probably for up to about the first 5 minutes. Never been too worried about it myself. It is a diesel after all. Mines a 2.8 with 282,000 k's. How many K's have you done?
