has anyone dropped a rover v8 into a isuzu just helped a guy shift all his stockcar bits today and got wondering as the 2.6 petrol stuggled a bit. And does anyone know how strong a 'zu manual box is- again for a bigger donkey am thinking of changing at the bell housing end of things instead of the traditional box - transfercase join this bloke seems to think it wouldnt be to hard to make the rover bell housing fit most things

Unfortunately this is the case. You could always make an adapter plate to mount the rover on the isuzu box but you need to be very accurate in your measurements. A workmate put a chev in a cruiser with a home made adapter It was 1mm off center and it completely ate a clutch in 500km

I think the easiest way to do it would be to mount it to a hilux gearbox, as lots of people have done them

Could be the easy way. Everything pretty much lines up with the Hilux box They are strong and cheap due to Hilux engine problems. Also heaps of adapters ready made to fit. (google marks adapters)

All starting to look too complicated as have been told that all hilux autosare electronic and was quoted $900 for a hilux manual. Does an isuzu v6 mount straight up to 4cyl box? Another thought is go deisel but what needs to be changed ute currently does about 2800 revs at 100kph on a 5speed manual. Thanks for any sugestions

Diesel & Petrol rodeos have identical gear box & diff ratios - both are doing 110 kph at 3 grand.
There are however a lot of other issues in the conversion - you need all the glo-plug circuitry, the exhaust blows out the opposite side of the motor, you need the fuel filter, primer pump/water seperator and the fuel tank is different (no electric pump in the tank)
Nothing insurrmountable if you are pretty handy - best bet if you want to do ahead is to source a front-cut withe the right motor etc.
