Hi guys,
I've finally got off my arse and mounted up my snorkel on the Mu after having been given it for my 21st back in October.
It's an airflow (Gibson) s29. Once the template was on (which is not accurate) and holes were drilled it became apparent that the angle of the pipe that is inserted into the guard is not extreme enough to miss the structural box section between the guard and engine bay. I've decided to run it inside the guard and enter the engine bay near the air filter inlet.
What I'd like to ask is what have others who have completed this modification done to get around the box section between the guard and engine bay or is it not a huge problem to cut a section out of it?
I have taken the air filter muffler piece out and driven like this for 2 days now and I'd have to say to everyone that it is the best thing I could have done for more performance. The muffler ( the little black plastic objects between the filter and guard ) seems to be a very restrictive item and the removal of it does not seem like it can cause any harm.
Any help, ideas, pictures are greatly appreciated.
Cheers
Michael

I had a similar issue with my Rodeo when I put on the snorkel - wound up just boring on through that box section untill we hit daylight in the engine bay Was a bit worried about the long term affects, but after 3 years of bashing about in some pretty rough terrain there are no cracks in the area so I figure it is probabaly over-engineered in the first place. I got a bit worried about putting the corrugated tube through that hole though - there is a lot of bits of metal to chaffe it on - I ended up Sikaflexing a piece of poly pipe onto the snorkel, and putting a standard plumbing fitting elbow on the inside end so there are also no bad bends to collase on you. Agree with the affect of the muffler before the air box - I took mine off a couple of days before I fitted the snorkel, and is made a huge difference to throttle response

Thanks for the feedback mate, i'll look into the structural properties of that box section a little more though. i've got lots of time now as i blew my turbo last night.
Cheers
