Hi all, so I'm sitting here in oz with my truck in nz, and thinking about all the things i can do to it when i get home.
I'm going to convert the rear to coil suspension, gonna use the same diff and just add the mounts.
After close study of muvits conversion i see that the auto has a fixed tail shaft hence the slip joint is in the drive shaft allowing alot more travel.
For a few months now i have been thinking about changing to a auto, as it is supposed to be easier for winching, and would make spot lighting alot more easier!!!!
I've had a good look around and i can't find anything about converting manual to auto, so:
How easy is it or is there heaps of wiring and stuff to contend with? and will it bolt straight onto the motor (4jb1t 2.8)?, or is there some way of locking the tail shaft into the back of the manual transfer box???
I know I'll have to fit a trans cooler so I'll get the biggest one i can, but do i have to mount a pump? or is the pump built into the tranny?
Is there any particular tranny to get or are they all the same?? (My truck is a UCS55)
And how much of a pounding can one of these auto's take??
Any thoughts or ideas greatly appreciated,
Thanks,
John.

The box itself is the most common box ever made and will happily take and Isuzu diesel without throughing its cogs out of the box. You do have an issue with the computer wiring loom but not insurmountable. There are also a lot of sensors on the throttle etc to worry about. Auto to manual conversions have been done several times so yours should be just the reverse. (he says with Tui beer in hand) Why not just swap the yokes around for a mix and match driveshaft or custom make one. It will be easier than a complete conversion

Thanks Geeves, i thought it would bolt up ok, but I don't like the sound of more sensors and wiring, and more stuff to break in general!!! As for the drive shafts, think i'll either weld or pin the tail shaft into the transfer box and then mate a nissan drive shaft onto the yoke by either mechanical means (if the universal joints are roughly the same) or with the help of my trusty grinder and welder!!!!
Then I'll try blow up the motor so i can fit a Lexus V8 into it and i'll put the auto box in then!!!!
