Hi All
Just wondering, has any body had any experience with fitting or even making a custom snorkel (ie. not shop bought) to their mu or the like?

Yeah, plenty of people have with bent pipe. A Christchurch pipe bender "Autobend" have it on file and make them on request.

Jimmy the airflow snorkel fits the MU and looks great. Last weekend at our driver / pilot training one of the guys caught his snorkel on a tree. It was pushed back so far that it has dented the top of the door with no damage to the snorkel. I would say that the plastic is as strong as you would need and would be cheaper than having one made.
Cheers Richard.

You would most certainly have the option of approaching any good exhaust place and have them bend up (for crush bends) a pipe or get them to make up a mandrel pipe for you. The pipe can be made up with pre-made sections of bends and straights, that they just hold up and weld together. Pwdercoat and fit....
ps I have the airtec snorkel on mine, love the fit and finninsh, you cant see any cuts in the body work the snorkel covers them. Not so with pipe, you have to pass it through a circular hole in the guard, I havebt see a good looking one IMHO.
Matt.

Thanks Guys ;D Yeah i've been told about the airtech snorkel, and even read about it on the Nz club site, but i also heard that you have to trim the snorkel itself in order to get a flush fit. Was also told that nobody would do the install on an Mu, im not to confident at doin it my self, thats why i thought a custom job might be easier, but no doubt the air tech looks great on the Mu. I don’t mean to sound lazy but maybe Francesco could help you/us on this . He’s a Brissy boy with a snorkel (I think?), I am going to fit a snorkel soon but will wait for early 2005, so I would also love to find out the best options. I will see what TJM can do as I getting a lift done then tomorrow. Cheers ;D Pissy

Thanks Pissy, If you could let us know how it went that would be great, went to Landcruiser park last week and that has really egged me on to get mine done, a bit more clearance would be great and hopefully stop me smashing my rear bottom bar lights, not to mention the bar itself. Jimmy

Jimmy,
My Mu is still in the shop, had small problems with shocks (they ordered the wrong set), Mu to be picked up this arvo, but I will not be able to tell you how it goes off road until after christmas (morton island from the dec 10 to 22) but I am doing a road trip to the gold coast this saturday, so I can give a road report on the TJM XGS springs and shocks.
(P.S, in what area of brisbane are you in and what colour is your MU, I'll give ya a way if see you, My MU is blue with club stickers and reflective blue tinting on the rear windows and lifted, you can't miss it, or if you want to have a look at the finish MU let me know and we'll try and find a time and place, I'm in Ashgrove)
