Hey Went into Repco on Friday, ordered a K&N filter for my '93 Isuzu MU 2.8L ... went to pick it up today. They pulled out this tiny 15cm long thing that looked like it belonged on a little 1.6L Toyota. They doubled checked and went and got another one ... it looked still a bit small but I heard that they are supposed to be smaller, so I paid (from memory it was something like a E2485). Went straight out to the truck and tried it. It was so short that it didn't even come up to the air intake hole in the box. The air coming through didn't go through the filter. So, back in, they spent ages looking at the computer and my old filter, then said we'll have to give you a refund, talk to Isuzu. I know there are some posts in the past about this, but none of them seem to have a definate answer. Does anyone have the K&N part number for the 2.8L 4JB1T Isuzu MU? At least I got my electrical tape ;D

Don't know if the airbox on your mu is the same as on my 88 bighorn 4jb1T - but I have a k&N filter in mine. It is much narrower than original cardboard filter, but inner hole diameter is the same at about 86mms, and 123mms in height. The no is: K&N A056A12. If above dimensions fit your current filter, this will likely be the one for you.

My current filter was supplied by the AA when I got a service, fits perfectly and measures approx: 155cm tall 155cm outer diameter 88cm inner diameter It looks like the product posted by astro49 is the one ;D And yes that E2485 looks like the one they tried to give me the second time I will go in tomorrow and see if they have any of the right ones. mudgrip4: I haven't seen K&N filters labelled that way before, but I'm sure it means something and might be a help for any future readers. Thanks.

Went back in today, armed with the number E2415.
They looked it up, nothing.
So they called their distributer, and found out it's an item that they don't stock.
So, I've ordered that ($185!!! ...said he couldn't give me a better price because he was ordering it in), it should be there ready for pick up and test in the next couple of days.
We'll see.
Then when I asked about a boost gauge without a vaccum display, just psi of boost, he told me that I'd be looking at a specialist race item, and over $600.
Time for some more research.

Wow that filter order was expensive! Almost equivalent to US$113.00! But when you got to have it.. you got to have it!

dasnoboarder You might want to check out what muvit madness is recommending. Seems the E2345 is the correct model since its top style is open while the E2415 is partially closed with only a small hole (probably for a retaining screw). And more importantly, muvit madness is currently using the E2345 so he should know better.
Just checked out the original filter, its also open on top (like the E2345) and sealed at the bottom (with a circular rubber sealing gasket). If the E2345's bottom is sealed or not, maybe muvit can give us some info on this. Unfortunately the K&N site doesnt show the bottom part.

Went in before school at 8am. Talked to a different guy there, explained that we had compared measurements and everything, but there was the partially closed E2415 or the open E2345 (took part detail print-outs with me). Showed him my current air filter and he agreed with the E2345. It's is being shipped from the U.S. and will be here in 8-10 weeks. It will not be refundable if it doesn't fit because of this ...The only good thing is that it should be $40 cheaper (making it $145). Hopefully it fits ... we'll see. Also got my rubber window surrounds cleaned out so that my power windows would stop getting stuck. I went into Smith & Smith glass Wairau Park. Talked to the guy about 4wding while he worked, he owns a lifted Suzuki mud-truck with 4AGE engine. Did an awesome job and decided I didn't owe him anything when he was done. ;D. AND I ordered a Autometer Sport-Comp boost gauge (part# 3404) without vaccum display ... also 8-10 weeks away. A successful afternoon.

hi dasno 8-10 weeks seems a long time to wait i should have mentioned that i bought mine from a place called rocket industries who are sirnonimous with anything &everything to do with motor racing. even got my half sweep boost gauge from them over the counter for both. check there website out for a pick on the filter www. rocket industries .com.au. also on the bottom of filter is open it has a raised rubber o'ring moulded into it to mate with the canister surface.

hi again dasno just wondering how you went with the k&n e2345? if you had any luck with the info?. the reason why i asked is that i recently hooked up with another mu owner & tackled some tracks together. but upon looking at his 3.1 motor noticed his airobox to be of a slant set up & slightly longer also? so the E2345 is too short for the slant airbox where as mine is vertical. hope this is of some use too others in the future...

Hey Muvit
The filter is still on it's way ... Should be arriving in a couple more weeks.
From your description, I think my airbox is the vertical type too, so the filter should be sweet as.

Now I know this is an old thread however since I found it helpful someone else might too. I followed Muvit's recommendation and visited Rocket who had a K&N E2345 off the shelf. Fitted my 2.8 perfectly and as stated is open on the end however seals against the bottom of the canister. Was a couple of months ago now but the cost was less than $100 - closer to $85 I think.

Hi mu4meandyou old threads are good as they serve a purpose for people who DONT mind spending a bit of time on the forum to look stuff up instead of people asking the same old ?s even when the ? thats asked has already been answered on numerous occasions before. nice to see/hear that thread is still of some use.. p.s I'm not having a whinge just stoked that people still do things the long way around cheers muvit
