I had mine wound up tight by superior engineering over here. The thing is almost a locked diff now with just the smallest amount of give. Makes it awesome off road. Back end lights up the 33's regularly when I come on boost around a bit of a corner.

Not a big job to tighten clutch pack system in lsd b4 you put it into your truck - 2-3 hours maybe, but it is job to leave to the experts. Gave mine to Diff Shop in Chch. They assess lsd standard as being about 50% of a locker, though some old lsds can have very little bite. You can improve them quite a bit with Redline diff oils(synthetic) though alot use Penrite Limslip 85W140 (mineral) as its alot cheaper and runs well.
A tightened lsd will in Diff Shop estimate run about 90% grip of a locker - and you do feel a lot of bite as Jimmu notes - though they can clunk and rumble quite a bit esp on sharp corners.
After a couple of years use with the tightened lsd ( before adding lokka) I felt it added about 40% more traction generally - close to full value of having a 3rd wheel locked in at all times. But in many situations it makes 100% difference - e.g. over uneven cross-axling ground, because you'd go nowhere without it.
The tight rear lsd with front lokka is a very good traction system - transforms offroad ability of truck. But the addition of just a rear lsd also adds alot - you will drive straight through cross-axling situations which will stop other vehicles.

hey thanks everyone of the good posts.
had the truck at my mates work up on the hoist and was looking at it today. i didnt relise how simple it is to change, one of his work mates had just happened to just one in his surf earlyer today aswell and showed me how.
will deffintly be putting one in asap! do i have to take out the orginal one and count the teeth to know the raito or is there a more simple way?
was it hard for other people who added them to find the right ratio?

ok think i answered my own questions from reading old posts. ofter doing the hole wheel turn count the shaft turn i counted about 2.25 so im guessing that is a 4.56 raito does this sound right?
are these lsds hard to find?

do all bighorns have lsd? if not how can i find out with out asking the wreckers? i take it if i say i want a lsd one they think $$$

Not all Bighorns or MUs have LSD. It's a factory option (code G80 on firewall plate).
Mine was $450, I asked straight up for the LSD. Pretty good I think.

3 weeks ago there was a bighorn in Wellington pick a part with an lsd not sure on ratio but it seemed in good nic. They would be cheapest but the catch is you bring your own tools and remove it yourself.

I think that the aussie lokka is the way to go for the rear axle as soon as they release it (which shouldn't be long I am told) several of my friends have arb air lockers or factory vacuum operated lockers in their trucks and without engaging them they are effectively only one wheel drive and when they are engaged the turning circle is lousy.
