Hello guys ,
I have a Isuzu TFS and would like to upgrade braking power . On rear axle I have drum brakes and would like to upgrade to disc brake system from a MU or Trooper . Is this a wise conversion on a pick-up , especially when towing or handling loads ?

Go for a 92 or later bighorn or 93 onwards Mu. If you have a 10 bolt rear diff you are probably out of luck though unless you change the complete diff and a lot of stuff on the front. From memory the rear drums mean a 10 bolt diff. The rear disc used on the 2.8 bighorn/mu had a horrible handbrake but the later ones went for a handbrake drum inside the disc. They are also bigger so you will need to change front and back and fit 16 inch wheels

Hi Greeves ,
Thanks for the info , yes I have the 10 bolt diff. in rear , but is it possible to swab only the brakes from a later MU or Big Horn ? I would really like to improve stopping power . If I took the complete axle from a MU/BigHorn 12bolt do I need to work in front axle also ?

Belive it or not disc brakes give less stopping power than drums. This is remydyed by fitting a booster. The real benifit of discs is they dont fade. If you change the brakes at one end you must make a matching change at the other either by playing with brake bios valves or fitting equivelent change at the other end. In NZ a brake change like this will require cert and unless you have matching brakes front and back you will have trouble proveing they are compatable. My father in law has built a couple of kit cars and he had to go as far as listing and compareing bore sizes in the master and slave cylinders. I keep looking at the 3.1 brakes for my bighorn which is a simple bolt on swap but then remember the certifier and think again
