Being that the new BP Ultimate Diesel has been released in Qld, I thought I would give it a bit of a crack to see what the hype is about. It is generally about 4-6 cents per litre dearer than the normal stuff but if the claims were correct then I thought what the hell. I do a lot of highway driving at 110kph in which on the normal stuff I use approx 8.5 litres per 100. After the first tank of the ultimate, I didn't notice any change however it did "seem" to run smoother. I decided to give it another go and put a second tank through it with about the same results as the first tank. After thinking that this is just a gimmick, I wasn't going to give a 3rd tank a go but circumstance made it that I was going past the same servo at the same time I needed diesel and the price had dropped a bit so in went the 3rd tank. To my surprise, at the end of that tank, and after about 100km of faster than normal driving (120kph), my usage had dropped to 7.9 litres per 100 to which I think was quite a considerable drop considering that anything over 3K rpm has quite an effect on fuel usage.
Has anybody else tried the ultimate?? Did it change anything??

Is there any documentation at the service stn? Any milage under 8/100km has to be considered very good as long as its consistant. It only takes a tiny slope on the forecourt to scew single tank measurements. In Nz Shell had a "fuel ecconomy forular" petrol that they pushed hard for 6 months before the Commerce commission told them it was misleading. Even if it does give more ecconomy does it still add up when the extra 6c/l is taken into considoration

This www.bpultimatebrochures.com.au/ is the online brochure that makes all of the claims. Seeing this fuel I was quite surprised because it doesn't look like ordinary diesel, it is completely clear and almost looks like water.

Not sure of Aussi diesel price but in NZ its 1.03 so 4c more is roughly 4% but from there document the best improvement is 3% average only 1%. Like so many other economy things even if they work you dont actualy get to save anything

I agree with you there geeves in that you probably won't save anything etc however, I look at what good things it does for my engine and I firmly believe that it just runs better with this stuff.
After doing a bit of reading around the other forums, others are claiming that their engines run better, whether it is the hype talking or it is actual fact is to be taken with a grain of salt. There are some claims though that it caused the fuel pumps to spring leaks which is very plausible considering that I am pretty sure the sulfur is very low in this fuel and we might have another case of what happened a few years ago where a lot of older pumps just started leaking diesel out of all orifices due to seals breaking down.
We are paying around $1.14 at the moment but the bonus for us is that we don't need to buy miles. All of the road tax is either taken up in the fuel cost or our rego so in comparison it is quite cheap to what you guys pay.
