Can anyone tell me how you remove the coolant pump on the
4JG2. Do you take out the four bolts on the pulley and take the pulley outer off to remove the plastic cover?

Have now sorted it anyway, the pulley does come of the crankshaft without undoing the centre bolt in spite of what three diesel mechanics I rang said! Just a light strain on the pulley with a puller and a tap on the back and it popped off. From there it was all plain sailing!!!
