Hey Guys
I own a 1996 Isuzu wizard 3.1ltr Turbo diesel, when i turn the key all i can here is a "click" from the engine bay does anyone have any ideas? and no its not a flat battery
Also my R, N, D, 2, lights don't always light up ( P, 1, always does) any ideas where i can fix this problem? is it to do with the selector on the side of the auto?
And the gear selector problem has always been like that and has nothing to do with the "click"
Cheers

First clean and tighten the battery conections Corrosion on these is a very common cause. The yellow fluffy corrosion isnt to bad except it eats everything Its the hard white corrosion that insulates. Next faulty stater or solinoid. A faulty battery might also be a cause as a high resitance cell will test as charged but wont give any current. The lights on the auto are probably the switch in the selector. Can be a fiddly fix If you have a meter put it across the battery and try and start the engine. If the voltage at the battery does not drop then look for a loose or faulty conection.

How well is it turning over? If its too slow the compression wont heat the mixture enough to fire although the glow plugs should take care of this. Does the glow plug light work normaly? I trust you have fuel? Its a pity you have an auto otherwise you could of tryed a crash start. If you have a meter measure the battery voltage while cranking, the voltage across the glow plugs while the glow light is on Where are you? Whats the age and milage of the truck?

The closest thing I can think of to "run on" is a faulty fuel cut off solenoid or excess blow by. Running on is realy a petrol engine term but can apply to diesels although its not a common occurrence. On a petrol engine with a carburetor any hot spot in the head could ignite fuel and as there was no fuel cut off an overheating engine would continue to run after being turned off. In a diesel engine it can only be turned off by shutting off the fuel so if it runs on the obvious choises are its still getting diesel because the fuel cut off solenoid is faulty or gets getting some sort of fuel from somewhere else. The most likely source is oil in the inlet which can come from either leaking seals in the turbo or excess blow by in the engine which should also show up in a compression test. If its the latter its a rebuilt engine required

cool mate, the old turbo did leak alittle, i was told to use engine start but that still didnt get it to start!!! and yeah it is blowing alot out of the breather, and there is oil in the inlet. Cheers

Not starting with engine start is a bad sign. Get a compession test done to prove but it dont sound good
