Hi all,
First post here, but I'll save the introductions for the correct section.
I've had a thought of putting racks and a small cargo basket on the back of my Mu. It's one of the two seaters with the hard cover over the 'tray' section (petrol 2.6 as well, apparently a little bit rare in this part of the world ;D).
Any thoughts on how much weight this might be capable of carrying? It wouldn't be much I'm sure (i think the cover is made from fibreglass?) but I'm hoping it might be enough to carry a full jerry can plus some camping bits and pieces e.g. tent and tarps.
Cheers J

Are you looking for a basket to go on the roof?. It has alot has to do with the type of mounting you want to go for. I have a fixed mount front and back on mine, and the bar are rated to 75kg but the section of the roof there on will not support the weight. HOWEVER, I would recommend a track mount system, id look at a short track on the front and a short track on the back, this will give you a more even spread of the load on the roof and also allows you to get a longer bar (the ones on mine are 800mm, where with a track i could get 1260mm ish) If you in NZ send me a PM as i work for the NZ distrubtors for Rhino Rack (roof bars to roof boxes) and can put you onto someone who is more informed than me (i specilize in a different area) You can goto www.rhinorack.com and see the options.

Demonic, this is the model of MU that J has .. .. I'm not too sure if you could put a set of roof racks on this type of MU .. you might be able to mount a small tray on the back, but you would probably need to strengthen the fibreglass tray cover ....

Yeah, was wondering if I might need a picture for people to understand what I'm talking about. Cheers for that elysian. What I was thinking was a very short set of tracks on the fibreglass cover...the theory being that if I mount the tracks properly the weight would be supported more by the side panels than the cover..? I must admit, I haven't done much research on mounting options so don't have a great understanding of how it's going to go together. Either way, I'm guessing there's very few people who have done it if any. Should be an adventure...and it'll certainly be interesting to see the look on the faces of the supplier when I speak to them about it... ;D
