Has anybody used the Castrol GTX diesel oil 15-40 in the 4JG2-T?
The place I go to get oil said that Penrite didn't come in the 15-40 anymore. I saw the Castrol in 20 litre drum for $78 on special somewhere else. I've never used Castrol in the MU and want your experience if it's any good.
Penrite has a 15-50 oil. Is that too thick?
Cheers

I use Castrol RX 15W 40, but it is around $100 for 20 litres, it works ok.

You label your oils differently to here. I think that is the same as our Castrol GTD which I used to use. As long as it has a rating of at least CF4 you should be fine although there are many oils around with CH4 or higher. Manufacturers recommendation is only CD as that was the best available when the car was new. With your current ambient temperatures a 15w50 might not be a bad idea as long as it is 15w50 not 20w50 which would be a little thick when cold

In the past I used Valvoline J-Tech SAE 15W-40 (( high ash, SAE 15W-40 API CD CF )) , but at approx $10/litre .. was a little expensive , but good stuff .. but it's hard to get ..
last 2 oil changes , I used Castrol Magnetec Diesel 15W-40 .. seems to be just as good.. and it's $33 a 5 litre bottle ..

I used Castrol GTD for a while and it was ok - I believe the top valvoline product is also good. I have used Delo 400 for years now and find it a good oil - has a CI-4 rating which is good. Recommended by local diesel service shop.

I used the Dello400 for a while as well. It is a very good oil but its also good at finding ways out of the engine ie leaks. Changed to Valvolene and leaks gone
