I installed 90/100 watt bulbs in my Mu a few days after I bought it. Last Wednesday morning I switched on the headlights and nothing!! Both fuses had blown. Bought new 10 amp fuses that afternoon and fitted them and so far no repeat of the problem. An electrician at work I mentioned this to said that it is possible the original fuses were just tired being nine years old presumably - the age of the car. Anyway from now I will carry spares at all times.

100 watt lamps run 8.3 amps when running and will use more when you turn them on as the resistance is lower when cold. This is very close to too much for a 10 amp fuse. You might have to change to a slow blow fuse of the same rating. Even my 55 watt +50 bulbs give more than adequate light.

I also installed 90/110 bulbs they also blew the fuse. Had the head light lume rewired with with 30 amp fuse box no problems cost $137.00. The improvement with just the 50/65 bulbs was great to the point i am yet to put the 90/110 in ;D. Dave

Picked up a pair of replacements from the wreckers for $30.00 brand new. Thinking i had sealed units, the new ones are polycarbonate. This is a good option if you have sealed beams.

Cool. I will head to the wreckers ASAP. What did you ask for when you got them?
Lights for a MU or something from a domestic vehicle...
Jimmy.

4WD's are usually fitted with sealed beams to save blowing bulbs when lights get water in them. However 24V sealed beams (Safari ) max out at 40watt so you need to replace with QH semi-sealeds and waterproof them with RTV or similar. Upgrades to high wattage bulbs give awesome lighting but they don't last as long and they do get much hotter. Allways fit a 30plus amp relay w/fuse when upgrading lights. Also check the light units are glass and not plastic as plastic will melt with high wattage bulbs. some earlier models without OEM relays will melt the light switch and wiring if you fit high wattage bulbs without a relay!
