Anything you do to increase front end travel beyond standard will put more strain on your cv joints. Its all a matter of how much you are willing to accept. A lift on its own has no effect as the susspension can only move between these 2 standard bump stops. A ball joint flip changes the geometry of the suspension allowing more drop and therefore more angle and stress on the cv. Cutting the lower bump stop allows the suspension to drop more also stressing the Cv joints. Cutting the lower stop in half on its own shouldnt affect things too much. There are a lot of people with ball joint flips and cut bump stops that get away with it but add large tyres to the mix and not only do you have a far higher load applied to the cv but it is also having to work well outside its design. Some people do get away with it but not everyone. Im not sure I know anyone that has broken a cv on standard wheels and suspension Mudlark has a small lift and 32 inch tyres and has never had a breakage but I would run out of fingers counting other people with similar setups and cv breakages Some of this is careful driving some is luck. Go bigger than 33 inch tyres or aggressive treads a ball joint flip and cut bump stop and it would be wise to carry a spare cv and practice changing them on a muddy track. Only thing you can do to reduce this is to lower the front diff but this cant be moved very far. Some 3 inch kits come with diff spacers fot this reason Last cv boot I did took 1 1/2 hours without rushing on the cramped side of my garage I have seen a cv changed in 30 min in a paddock. If you do them the way stated in the manual they take about 6 hours. Cv joints are a weak link but a lot easier to change than a diff.

yeah im not too worryed about the cv i complety undersatand the added stresses of rasing and lowing vehciles
the thing that got me was we went all the way there and then had to go home...
the insurance should cover the cv so only $100 then i wont have to worry about it for a wee while (touch wood)
what about the top bumpstop as well, then the wheel will beable to go up more is this right? will have to cut them down a bit when the new cv is on:)
